From the beginning of the program, Adams demonstrated her strength by finishing the $2,000 Tossup and Round 1 puzzles and securing $5,900. Nelson maintained a closing position with $3,700 in winnings as Salonga remained without any winnings during the game.
The Express Round brought a change of fortune for Salonga who managed to surge ahead with $13,698. Through her victories in the Triple Tossup followed by the Speed Up round Adams secured a final episode total of $17,600 which claimed victory for her.
In the Bonus Round, Adams chose the “Person” category and selected the additional letters “C, H, P, and I.” Unfortunately, these letters provided little help, leaving her with a challenging two-word puzzle: “_ _ _ _ / _ _ I T _ R I S T.”
The passing seconds of the ten-second timer created a pressure-packed situation that made Adams unable to form a correct selection. Vanna White eventually revealed the answer: “Jazz Guitarist.”
Seacrest concluded the show by showing Adams all but lost her chance at winning $40,000 and a Canadian Rockies trip when he revealed the prize envelope.
Fans quickly took to the comments to express their sympathy for Adams, with many calling the puzzle “impossible” to solve.
Impossible, at least for me, with the little help she had,” one YouTube commenter wrote.
The second participant reacted with admiration to the difficulty level.
“I knew ‘Guitarist’ but didn’t know the first word at all. One user of the forum declared the puzzle especially challenging to resolve.
Others praised Adams’ sportsmanship, with one writing, “Tough puzzle, but good attitude anyway.”
“This was hard,” another fan simply stated.
